Welcome to Recology Sonoma Marin’s new Materials Recovery Facility (MRF)!
This 85,000 square foot facility is where many of the blue recycling bin materials from 13 communities in Sonoma and Marin Counties are sorted and processed. Inside the new facility, recyclables are separated by revolutionary equipment like optical sorters that help us remove contaminants before they’re hand-sorted by our team of recycling sorters. The facility processes around 400 tons of materials every day and has predicted a recovery rate of 85 percent for materials collected.
Know Before You Go
Want to see it for yourself? We’d love to give you a tour to show you what happens to your recyclables after our trucks collect them. Please wear closed-toe sturdy shoes. We will provide safety vests and hard hats. Those 15 years of age or older can participate, with minors under 18 years of age requiring a parent or guardian signed permission slip.
Please note that this is a working industrial facility with potential hazards and your safety is our top priority. It is important that you are able to walk up/down multiple stairs unassisted and stand/walk for at least 60 minutes. For large groups, please contact RSMWasteZero@Recology.com to book a private tour.
